Which churches we list

The church finder lists churches that hold to the historic Christian faith. Listing is free for every church that meets this standard.

The standard

A church in the finder affirms:

  1. The historic Christian faith as stated in the Apostles' Creed and the Nicene Creed, including the Trinity and the deity and bodily resurrection of Jesus Christ.
  2. The authority of Scripture.
  3. Salvation by grace through faith in Christ.
  4. The biblical teaching on marriage and sexuality: marriage is between one man and one woman. The church does not perform same-sex weddings, and it does not ordain or install clergy in same-sex relationships.

How we apply it

We read each denomination's own governing documents and official statements, and list or leave out its churches by what those documents say today. Where a denomination leaves the question to each congregation, or a church belongs to no denomination, we read the church's own statements before we decide.

A congregation can differ from its denomination. A church that has left a denomination, or that states its own position on its website, is listed or left out by its own statements. A church that thinks we have it wrong can write to us with a link to its statement of faith.

Every church that claims its page or asks to be listed affirms this standard on the form.

Denominations

Each line names the document we read and the day we read it.
