The story behind 10,000 Reasons (Bless the Lord)

Matt Redman and Jonas Myrin wrote 10,000 Reasons (Bless the Lord). Wikipedia says Myrin first played Redman an idea for part of the chorus melody. Redman called it immediately inspiring and said the song came together quickly. In an interview reported by the Evangelical Alliance UK, Redman described a small village chapel, where the two men had written all day. At about 1:30 in the morning he said he needed to go home, and his co-writer asked him to hear one more chorus melody. Redman said the song started pouring out and described it as four chords and the truth, with no pre-chorus.

The song draws on Psalm 103, and a review at The Berean Test lists verses 1 to 5. Wikipedia adds that it also builds on Henry Francis Lyte's hymn Praise, My Soul, the King of Heaven, which is a paraphrase of the same psalm. Redman released it on his album 10,000 Reasons in 2011, and the copyright notice carries the same year.

It won the 2013 Grammy for Best Contemporary Christian Music Song and Best Gospel/Contemporary Christian Music Performance, and Song of the Year at the Dove Awards. The BBC featured it in its Songs of Praise Top 100 Hymns poll, and the program performed it in January 2016. PraiseCharts ranked it first among worship songs of the 2010s by aggregated usage.
