The story behind Blessed Be Your Name

Matt Redman and his wife Beth wrote Blessed Be Your Name. The words echo Job 1:21, where Job blesses the Lord after losing his children and possessions in one day. Logos reports that the Redmans wrote it after the September 11 attacks and that Redman has said it also grew from painful family history that taught them to see worship as a choice. Redman recorded it in 2002 for the album Where Angels Fear to Tread, and his version was never released as a single. Tree63, a South African band, released a cover as a single in 2003, and Wikipedia reports that it reached number 2 on Billboard's Hot Christian Songs chart and stayed on the chart for 68 weeks. Newsboys recorded it in 2004 on Devotion. The song won Worship Song of the Year at the 2005 Dove Awards. Hymnary.org lists it among the CCLI Top 100 songs.
