The story behind Build My Life
Pat Barrett, Brett Younker, Karl Martin, Kirby Kaple and Matt Redman wrote Build My Life. Wikipedia reports that the Atlanta band Housefires first released it on Housefires III in 2016, with Barrett singing, while the PraiseCharts copyright line is dated 2017. Passion also recorded a live version. Barrett signed with Chris Tomlin's Bowyer and Bow label in March 2018, and his self-titled EP with several versions of the song came out on December 21, 2018. It went to US Christian radio on January 4, 2019. Barrett told Free CCM the song carried him through years of change, and he draws on Jesus's parable of the wise builder who set his house on rock. The song reached number one on Billboard's Christian Airplay and Christian AC charts and peaked at number four on Hot Christian Songs. The RIAA certified it Gold, and it received two Dove Award nominations in 2019. A live video of Barrett with Tomlin and another with Cory Asbury followed in December 2018.
