The story behind Good Good Father
Pat Barrett and Tony Brown of the band Housefires wrote Good Good Father. Logos says Barrett began it while wondering how to explain God to his young daughter, Harper Gray, and how to introduce her to the God who had changed his own life. Housefires released the first version in 2014. Logos reports that Chris Tomlin's wife heard the song at a conference and showed it to Chris, who recorded it. Tomlin released it on October 2, 2015, as the lead single from the album Never Lose Sight, and Barrett appeared in the music video. It spent seven weeks at number one on Billboard's Hot Christian Songs chart, won Song of the Year at the 2016 Dove Awards, and is certified two times platinum by the RIAA. Logos connects its themes to Luke 15, the parables of the lost sheep and the prodigal son, and to Jesus's words about the sparrow in Matthew 10. Casting Crowns, Housefires and Tomlin all have widely viewed recordings.
