The story behind Goodness of God
Jenn Johnson, Jason Ingram, Ben Fielding, Ed Cash and Brian Johnson wrote Goodness of God. Jenn told Fox News that the song began during her family's adoption of their fourth child. While driving a long country road she sang an unplanned song into her phone about God's faithfulness and kindness, and that recording became the seed of the song. The adoption moved quickly, and her husband Brian Johnson, a fellow Bethel Music co-founder, shares the writing credit. Bethel Music released it on January 4, 2019, as a promotional single ahead of the album Victory, which came out January 25. A live video filmed during a Bethel Church service spread on YouTube, and a radio version followed in November 2019. Wikipedia reports a peak of number 15 on Billboard's Hot Christian Songs chart for the Bethel recording and a Gold certification from the RIAA. CeCe Winans recorded it live for her 2021 album Believe for It. Her version reached number 6 on Hot Christian Songs and number 2 on Gospel Songs, and the RIAA certified it platinum.
