The story behind Living Hope
Phil Wickham and Brian Johnson of Bethel Music wrote Living Hope from a distance. A review on 365 Days of Inspiring Media says they traded lyrics and voice memos by text over about a month, and Wickham felt something special had been given to them. Wickham has said he wanted the Gospel in the song from start to finish. Logos says the song meditates on 1 Peter 1:3-9, with verses that move from human helplessness to rescue through Christ's death and resurrection. Wickham released it on Good Friday, March 30, 2018, as the lead single from his seventh studio album, also titled Living Hope. The copyright line carries 2017. It reached number 10 on Billboard's Hot Christian Songs chart, won Worship Recorded Song of the Year at the 2019 Dove Awards, and earned a platinum certification from the RIAA. Bethel Music recorded live versions, including one led by Bethany Wohrle, on its 2019 album Victory.
