The story behind Lord I Lift Your Name on High

Rick Founds wrote Lord I Lift Your Name on High in 1989. According to Wikipedia, he wrote it during morning devotions while reading Scripture on his computer monitor and watching television. As he strummed his guitar he thought about the cycle of redemption and compared it to the water cycle, where rain falls, nourishes the earth and rises again. The short text follows Jesus from heaven to earth, to the cross, to the resurrection and back to heaven, and Hymn for the Day notes that its phrasing echoes the Psalms. Founds first led it as a worship leader at his own church. Maranatha! Music picked it up, and the Maranatha! Singers recorded it in 1989 on Double Praise 12. Promise Keepers used it at its rallies in English and Spanish. According to Wikipedia, CCLI named it the most-used song in US churches every year from 1997 to 2003. The Church Hymnary, fourth edition, prints it as number 558, with John 16:27 as its Scripture reference.
