The story behind Lord, I Need You
Matt Maher wrote Lord, I Need You with Jesse Reeves, Kristian Stanfill, Christy Nockels and Daniel Carson. An 88.7 The Cross article says Maher had been asked to write a song for a worship conference. He said the only honest way to do it was to start from what he himself needed. He drew on old hymns and on books by C.S. Lewis, and the result was a short prayer of dependence on God. Hymnary.org prints the copyright as 2011, while PraiseCharts prints 2010. GodTube credits a different set of writers than every other source, and the PraiseCharts and Hymnary.org credits agree on the five names above. Maher's channel carries an official lyric video, a live version and an acoustic version, and Passion recorded a live version with Chris Tomlin. Hope Publishing sells a choral arrangement by Lloyd Larson. Hymnary.org lists the song in its CCLI Top 100 for 2017 at number 9.
