Church Marketing Companies: How to Choose Help
Use this brief, proposal checklist and ownership questions to compare church marketing companies and hire help for a defined task.
On this page
Choose a church marketing company for a specific task your church cannot complete with its own people. Write the task, budget limit, church approver and completion date before asking for proposals. Keep your church in control of its website, domain, accounts and contact records.
Write a brief before contacting companies
A useful brief names the audience and the work. For example: “People visiting our church cannot find parking instructions on a phone. We need a visitor page with current photos, directions, service times and children’s check-in instructions. Our office will verify the details. The page must be ready before our next guest Sunday.”
Name one person who can approve the work. Set a total spending limit and ask the company to separate setup fees, ongoing fees, advertising spend and optional work. A website planning guide can help you define the pages you need before buying a rebuild.
Ask each company the same questions
- Who will do the work, and who will answer our questions?
- What exact pages, files or campaigns will you deliver?
- Which dates require our review, photos or approval?
- Will our church register the domain, control billing and recovery, and have administrator access to every account?
- Can we export the website, designs and contact records when the contract ends?
- What does the ongoing fee cover, and how do we cancel?
- How will you ask permission before using a person’s photo or testimony?
- Which results can you measure, and which depend on people outside your control?
Ask to see a finished church project on a phone. Contact a church that has worked with the company and ask whether the work arrived on time and whether staff could maintain it afterward.
Compare proposals by deliverable
Put each proposal into a table with one row per deliverable: visitor page, directory correction, photo session or printed invitation. Record the price, due date, revision allowance and person responsible. Ask the company to explain any item you cannot describe to your board in one sentence.
A logo project needs editable source files, permitted uses, font licensing and examples at small sizes. An advertising project needs a spending cap, the account owner, a landing page and a way to count event registrations or visitor inquiries. A consulting project needs written recommendations and a person assigned to carry them out.
Protect access before work begins
Create accounts with a church-controlled email address. Give each worker their own login and only the permissions they need. Keep recovery details with two authorized church leaders. Put ownership, cancellation, file delivery and access removal in the agreement. Review the member data guide before giving anyone access to personal records.
Start with one defined project
Approve one defined project with a completion date and a review meeting. Test the delivered work yourself: open the page on a phone, submit the form, check the contact details and download the promised files. Approve ongoing work after the church understands what the company delivered and what remains to do.
