A church’s social media posts do the most good when they tell people something they can act on: when the church meets, what is happening this week, and what to pray for. Copy any of the posts below and change the names, dates and times to your own.

First-time visitors”Visiting Grace Baptist this Sunday? Park in the side lot, come in the front doors, and someone at the welcome table will show you around. The service lasts about 75 minutes.”
Christmas Eve”Our Christmas Eve service is Thursday, December 24, at 6:00, with carols and the reading of Luke 2. Everyone is welcome, and the service lasts an hour.”

Rules for photos and children

  1. Ask before you post a photograph of anyone, and take it down when someone asks.
  2. Get a parent’s written consent before a child appears in a post, and never give a child’s last name or school.
  3. Keep prayer requests about a person’s health or family out of public posts unless that person asks you to share them.
  4. Describe each photograph in a sentence when the platform asks for alt text, the description that a screen reader speaks aloud for a person who cannot see the picture.

Worship songs in videos

A video of the congregation singing a song under copyright needs a license to post. CCLI, a company that licenses worship songs to churches, sells a Streaming License to “upload recordings of your worship services to your church website or social media channels,” and a Streaming Plus License “if you stream song recordings and multitracks,” which are recorded backing parts. Our guide to presentation and lyrics software explains which hymns are free to use.
